For Immediate Release is both a unique handmade book which was created by Elizabeth McKee
& an equally unique opportunity to have some creative fun while building community and helping a worthy cause.
Beth created five copies of this book about the universality of the women's liberation struggle between August 2005 and February 2007 while she was living in Moscow, Russia. The books include the full texts of a speech by Stephen Lewis titled This World Is Off Its Rocker When It Comes To Women, the poem Fugue by Robyn Sarah and the song Bread and Roses by James Oppenheim.
The two themes that tie the three texts together are women and community. From the specific narrative of the Bread and Roses strike to the struggles described in This World Is Off Its Rocker When It Comes To Women to the determined women of Fugue and the images of women marching off the page, the message is clear, Things can get better for women if they work together.
So we offer spin-offs of this book as innovative community building tools. We understand community to mean groups of two or three people working together as well as the whole world community and everything in between. We urge you to join our quest for a better world for all women and men.
Closed, each book is approximately 10 x 13 x 1.5 inches (26 x 33 x 4 cm).
Opened fully they are each approximately 10 inches x 43.8 feet (26 x 1336 cm) long.
They are more like fraternal quintuplets than identical quintuplets.
